Conducting Workshop Information
TrebleFest organizers welcome conducting students and community conductors to apply for a conducting workshop with the TrebleFest lab choir made up of members from Hypatia’s Voice and Aella – two auditioned treble voice choirs in Ottawa.
The conducting workshop will take place on April 26, 2025 at St. Matthew’s Anglican Church, 217 First Avenue, Ottawa, ON from 10 am to 12:15pm as part of the TrebleFest proceedings. Each conducting participant will have 20 minutes to conduct and receive a professional recording of their conducting recorded from 2 camera angles. During this time, they will receive a live conducting coaching from Dr. Hilary Apfelstadt, TrebleFest’s guest clinician. The conducting workshop fee is $160.
Application requirements include a one-paragraph statement of interest, a one-page CV, and a reference letter or a video of your conducting (can be 5 minutes or less).
Participants are asked to choose from the following songs to conduct which will be prepared in advance by the lab choir: Come Ye Makers of Song (Ruth Watson Henderson); Musique Sur L’eau (Ducasse); We Are The Ones (Saindon). The lab choir is thoroughly prepared to sing all three songs. The selected applicants will receive a copy of each of the songs and will receive a preview copy in advance. It is required that the applicant come to the workshop having prepared the scores they are conducting.
If participants are Treble voice singers, they are encouraged to participate in the entirety of the TrebleFest weekend, April 25-April 27. Complimentary registration for the festival is included for all conducting workshop participants. All participants are invited to attend the final TrebleFest concert on April 27 at 4pm at St. Matthew’s Anglican Church.
Registration deadline: March 25, 2025.
